How can I make a Swap Offer?
- Click on the item you would like to make a swap offer for, e.g. a jacket
- Click on the green Button Make a Swap Offer
- Click on Select to show all your items
- Click on every item you are willing to give in exchange for the jacket
- Finally click Submit Offer
swapnix will switch to the view 'My Swaps' tab 'Step 1'.
For every item you are willing to give in exchange for the jacket swapnix has created a swap offer.
As soon as any of your swap offers becomes part of a circular swap swapnix will inform you via email and through the website. At that point you will have some choices on how to proceed.
Important: the more swap offers you make for the jacket the more likely it is that you will actually get it!
How long does it take swapnix to find a circular swap?
It depends. It can happen instantly after you entered a swap offer. It might take a while.
The more swap offers are made by you and others the more likely circular swaps are.
Whenever you make a swap offer - let's say for a jacket - offer as many items as possible in exchange. Keep in mind those are all items you have but don't need. You are not offering all of them in exchange for the jacket but only one of them.
How does swapnix process my swap offer?
You can check on the status of your swap offers at My Swaps. Every swap offer passes through up to five steps. However, your participation is only required in Step 2: To be approved and Step 4: Confirmed.
- Step 1: Offered: You created this swap offer. No circular swap found yet. As soon as swapnix finds a circular swap containing your swap offer it will be moved into Step 2. At that time you will be informed by email and website. As long as your swap offer is in Step 1 it can be withdrawn at any time. For more information please check here.
- Step 2: To be approved: swapnix has found a circular swap containing your swap offer. At that point you have three choices. Approve, Withdraw or Reject. If you Approve your swap offer will be moved into Step 3. For more information please check here.
- Step 3: In confirmation: swapnix has found a circular swap containing your swap offer. You have already approved. swapnix will collect all missing approvals. You don't have to do anything. As long as your swap offer is in Step 3 you can withdraw or reject it at any time. For more information please check here.
- Step 4: Confirmed: swapnix has found a circular swap containing your swap offer. All participants have approved. You are entitled and obliged to swap with your corresponding swap partners. At this point you can neither withdraw nor reject. As soon as you have received and delivered the corresponding items from and to your swap partners you can click on Swap Done. This moves your swap offer into Step 5. For more information please check here.
- Step 5: Done: You have properly executed the swap with your swap partners. At this point you have the opportunity to rate your swap partners. Step 5 collects all done swaps. They can be revisited here at any time.
The Buttons Approve, Withdraw, Reject and Swap Done have the following effect:
- Approve: You approve the swap. Your swap offer moves into Step 3.
- Withdraw: Your withdrawing your swap offer with immediate effect. If your swap offer was part of a circular swap that does not exist anymore. All participants are informed accordingly.
- Reject: You maintain your swap offer but you reject the swap partner you would be delivering to. The circular swap does not exist anymore. Your swap offer is moved back to Step 1. All participants are informed accordingly.
- Swap Done: You acknowledge to have properly executed the swap with your swap partners. Your swap offer is moved into Step 5.
Why doesn't my item show up on the map?
The most likely reason for your item not showing up on the map that you have not entered a location for it:
- click on the item in question
- click Edit→ More Details → Location → Select Location
- move the marker to the desired location on the map
- click Select
- check Terms and Conditions
- click Save
Other reasons are:
- item is not active → check here
- item is hidden underneath another item → move it to a slightly different location
Always make sure you to reload the browser page for any changes to take effect.
Why did my item disappear?
Once a new item has been created it cannot disappear.
Please click on 'My Items' and check all tabs 'Active', 'Expired', 'Unpublished' and 'Closed'. You'll find your item under one of these tabs. Also see here.
How can I delete an item?
There is no specific delete functions. But you can close an item: click on the item and click on close item and follow the short dialog. From now on this item is visible only to you at 'My Items' tab 'closed'. For more information please check here.
What are active, expired, unpublished and closed items?
For each item the owner can set the following attributes:
- published / unpublished
- start-date and end-date
These attributes control the visibility of items to other users.
In short: as long as an item is ‘published’ and the actual date is between ‘start-date and end-date’ the item can be found by other users and swap offers can be made.
When creating a new article these conditions are satisfied by default.
In more detail ...
If an item is
- ‘published’
- the actual date is between ‘start-date and end-date’
- not closed
then other users can find it and make swap offers.
When creating a new article by default these conditions are satisfied.
The owner of the item can also find it under ‘My Items’ tab ‘Active’.
If an item is
- ‘published’
- the actual date is before the ‘start-date’
- not closed
then the item cannot be found by other users.
The owner of the item can find the item under ‘My Items’ tab ‘Active’.
As soon as the actual date is the start-date the item can be found by all users.
If an item is
- ‘published’
- the actual date is after the ‘end-date’
- not closed
then the item cannot be found by other users.
The owner of the item can find the item under ‘My Items’ tab ‘expired’.
If an item is
- ‘unpublished’
- not closed
then other users cannot see it.

An item can be closed in two different ways
- As soon as an item is part of a confirmed circular swap (all swap partners have approved) the item is automatically ‘closed’.
- As long as an item is not part of a circular swap it can by ‘closed’ any time by its owner. Find item, click on item, click on 'close item'.
Closed items
- As long as an item is not ‘closed’ and not involved in a circular swap it can be edited anytime.
- If an item is closed then it other users cannot see it.
- The owner of this item can find it under ‘My Items’ tab ‘closed’.
- Changing ‘published’ or ‘start-date and end-date’ is no longer possible.
- In particular this item cannot be reopened.
- However the owner has the option to create a copy of this item as new item.
